the Dinner Party

Part of THE TERRAIN EXHIBITIONS

This art installation focuses on art objects that can have an impact on feeding migratory birds that are passing through on their journey south.  The Terrain Exhibitions are perfectly timed with the migratory habits of many bird species.  In the weeks of early fall, birds’ hormones shift and they are compelled to overeat gaining weight, some even doubling their weight. This extra fat is essential fuel for their journey south. I have tried to create beautiful objects that have a positive impact on these different species.

“Dinner Party” consists of more than 40 handmade ceramic feeders spaced out at varying heights in a large circle facing each other as if seated at a dining table.  The center piece is two bird baths that will provide a quick plunge and drinking water for the guests.  Eight small hanging feeders are suspended from the branches of a large pine tree adjacent to the circle.  Host and hostess feeders welcome visitors at the entrance to the “Dinner Party”.
